A Game of Chess!
If my daughter-in-law, Jessica, doesn't have her baby today, then tonight after midnight they are planning to induce. Her parents are here from Michigan, and since she and my son, Gareth, will not be at church tonight, I will be helping with our Royal Ranger ministry.

My youngest son, Jeffrey is in that Ranger class and he is working on his chess merit. I like chess well enough, but enjoy playing with my son even more. Still best of all is the wonderful feeling that comes because Jeffrey wants to spend time with his dad. Certainly I will miss the Adult Bible Study class, but I have great expectations about playing chess with Jeffrey. It doesn't matter whether or not I win, either. The time we will have together tonight is what really matters.

Today I want to remind you that our Heavenly Father enjoys spending time with us, too! Just as my heart is warmed by my son's desire to spend time with me, so God the Father's heart is warmed by our genuine desire to be with Him. In fact, if there is anything we really need, it is to enjoy being in His presence. The Psalmist writes in Psalm 37:4

Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

When you learn to enjoy being with your heavenly Father, you can be sure that He will enjoy giving you the desires of your heart. Do you have some special need in your life today? I want to encourage you to draw close to your Heavenly Father, and let Him give you your heart's desire. Have a blessed day!
